Solar Electric also known as photovoltaic
(PV), is the best way to convert sunlight directly into electricity. Semiconducting materials that absorb sunlight are
the building blocks for photovoltaic panels. When sunlight hits the semiconducting materials electrons are bumped loose
from their atoms, allowing electrons to flow through the material, producing electricity.
Solar Thermal Systems use the energy of the sun to heat water.
In Michigan, this is a great way to provide for domestic hot water needs. The sun heats the absorber plate in the collector
which transfers the heat to fluid running through the tubes within the collector. The hot water then moves into a storage
tank inside the home or business.
Wind Turbines
convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power that turns a generator, producing
electricity. Electricity from the wind is CLEAN, DOMESTIC and a RENEWABLE resource that can help the United States decrease
its dependence on forgeign fuel sources.
